What is Psychotherapy?

PSYCHOTHERAPY…………

is a long word that puts many people off – and not just because of its length… In our complicated world of increasing stresses and strains, it is widely recognised as an important tool for improving quality of life. Working hand-in-glove with counselling, the primary task of psychotherapy, like medicine and surgery, is to try to create conditions that aid the healing processes of the mind.

Depression, drug or alcohol problems, the anguish of bereavement, soured relationships and family problems can all be treated successfully with psychotherapy. It has been proved to uncover deep-rooted and often repressed feelings that project themselves in the form of unwelcome personality traits that can be managed or even eradicated.

I believe we all have the inner courage to change the way in which we live and go through life. Life can often be infected with past messages – we can not change the past, but the future still offers opportunity. If we look at our internal messages we have the chance to change and thrive in a more balanced way……… happiness should not be dependent on others. Our outlook and choice of attitude is the power of true freedom!
